Who is involved? (1).... The Intended Parents

There are different parties that are involved and they need to be well coordinated: the intended parents, the surrogacy agency and / or egg donation agency and the fertility clinic.

In California, the intended parents can be heterosexual couples, homosexual couples or single parents. It basically doesn’t matter as the state of California is very liberal in this respect.

This means that not only intended parents with fertility problems can be candidates, but also intended parents without fertility problems which would be the case of single parents ( male or female) and homosexual couples who aren’t able to have a biological family in their own countries.

WHY CALIFORNIA?

The states in the US have different laws, it’s legal in some and illegal others, some are more conservative and prefer heterosexual couples. The state of California however is the most liberal state for Intended Parents. Basically anybody that wants to be a parent can have the opportunity of building a family. Couples with fertility problems, homosexuals, single parents etc. There is no discrimination in this respect-

I asked myself if I would be able to do this on my own. Was this just an option for the rich and famous? How would it be possible if I lived outside the US. Everything seemed to be so difficult. Or was it?

Another coincidence made me want to go a bit further in my research. A childhood friend who lives in the US happened to actually know a surrogacy agency in California.

All the signs were there. Surely it wasn’t all just one big coincidence. I had to find out if this was going to be the final option, the road to success.

So this is why I decided to write this blog. I am aware that there is lack of knowledge on this subject in many countries due to the legal constraints. I hope my blog will help all those people really wanting to be parents.

When you are so far away, I think work of mouth is really important as basically a lot of decision making will be required: choosing the agency, th surrogate, the fertility clinic, lawyers etc. and then there is of course the financial aspect.

DECISION MAKING

I think we have all hear that in the US many people use gestational carriers to have a child. We have seen many celebrities have their children with surrogate mothers.

Surrogacy is actually illegal in many countries and that is why so many people travel to the US every year in an aim to make their dream of being a parent come true.

I’m not sure if I believe in fate but I must say that sometimes and for some unexplainable reason we are faced with opportunities which we would never have imagined we would have come across.

I was at a dead end. I had decided I wanted to be a mother but it just wasn’t happening. Over a year of fertility treatments, miscarriages and no real medical explanation to at least give me a real reason for the lack of success.  I was feeling so emotionally and physically strained that I had even considered adoption. I was going to have one last try and if it didn’t work, then I was going to adopt.

But then right in the middle of this decision-making process, a friend mentioned surrogacy to me and that made me reconsider my decision.
